Astrid Myntekær

Astrid Myntekær is known for her sensory installations, where the delicate and the spectacular intertwine to ignite the viewer's imagination. Her unconventional choice of materials ranges from readymades to high-tech lasers and magnetic fluids. Light plays an important role in Astrid Myntekær's work. She frequently uses light to evoke a greater sense of space, which she utilizes to point out reality's abstract structures and immaterial "substances."

Central to Astrid Myntekær's work is an interest in physical matter that takes on a new and symbolic meaning when manipulated. She explores paradoxical connections across cultures and eras. Like a true philosopher, Astrid Myntekær poses fundamental questions about the nature of the universe and its links to human thought.

Astrid Myntekær's photogravure Palmstroke is a recording of a lightning strike in plexiglass. After photographing the plexiglass, Astrid Myntekær transferred the motif to a photopolymer plate, which is a light-sensitive material. The material's exposure to light produced an "etched" polymer plate, which could then be printed like a traditional engraving.
